The vibrant town of Basar was recently adorned with creativity and cultural splendor during the First District-Level Literary cum Cultural Competition organized by the Literary Society of Leparada. The event, held on November 17-18, 2023, saw an impressive participation of 23 schools from various corners of the district, uniting under the banner of artistry and intellect.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Gokar Basar, the MLA of the 29th Basar constituency in Leparada District, as the chief guest. Joining in as the guest of honor was Gomar Basar, Assistant Registrar at RGU Itanagar, and Thugten Jambey, SP Leparada as a Special Guest, adding a distinguished touch to the occasion. Noteworthy officials, principals, dedicated teachers, and enthusiastic students were among the attendees, elevating the event's significance.
The competition showcased a myriad of literary and cultural talents, featuring captivating events such as short extempore speeches in English and Galo, stirring poem recitations in English and Hindi, the artistry of cursive writing and painting, essay writing, and the mesmerizing Galo traditional dance in the cultural segment.
A quiz competition was also conducted in collaboration with Memories Management Club (MMC), an NGO formed by a group of youth based in Basar.
The next day, which was the prize distribution day, saw Lirik Riba, a retired Principal, gracing the closing ceremony alongside Nyamo Rina, DDSE Basar Leparada District, as the guest of honor.
"The event not only celebrated the intellectual prowess and creative finesse of the district's young minds but also served as a platform to cherish and preserve the rich cultural heritage embedded within the community," said Nilmoni Dhar, the organizing chairman.
The organizing secretary, Tujum Basar, said that the First District-Level Literary cum Cultural Competition 2023 stands as a testament to the power of unity through art, education, and cultural appreciation, fostering a legacy of talent and tradition for years to come.
