CM Launches Tirap Netra CCTV Surveillance System and Project Pratighaat Drug Rehabilitation Batch

Khonsa | November 6 :

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, along with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Director General of Police, and other dignitaries, inaugurated two projects of Tirap Police during their visit to Ram Krishna Sarda Mission School, Khonsa.

The first project, Tirap Netra, is an IP-based CCTV surveillance system for the Tirap district. Phase I of the project, featuring 57 cameras, including 8 Automatic Number Plate Reader (ANPR) cameras in Khonsa town, was inaugurated. The Netra control room at the SP Office for integrated monitoring of CCTVs was also inaugurated. Phase II of Tirap Netra will extend coverage to check gates and other towns such as Deomali and Lazu.

The project has been undertaken with the objectives of enhancing the feeling of safety and security in the district, especially women's security, and serving as a force multiplier for police in solving criminal cases and managing law and order.

It will also help catch traffic rule violators track incoming vehicles in the district and supervise police staff activities at nakas and check gates.

The second project was the flagging off of the Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) sponsored drug rehabilitation batch of destitute individuals under  Project Pratighaat. The first drug rehabilitation batch of 15 destitute individuals from Tirap district, sponsored by PGCIL under the CSR scheme, was flagged off. Executive Director Powergrid Aadesh Gupta was also present on the occasion.

Project Pratighaat is a women-led transformation of Tirap into a drug-free district. It involves four components:

1. Door-to-door counselling by a team of local women volunteers, police team, and subject experts.

2. Continuous surveillance by the community.

3. The SP's official number is given as a helpline number to share drug peddler information.

4. CSR contribution to mobilizing funds for the rehabilitation of destitute youth.

Project Pratighaat was started by SP Tirap Rahul Gupta to eliminate drug addiction in Tirap by using the force of Nari Shakti, in the process, empowering women too. Since its inception on August 23, 2023, a total of 312 individuals have been counselled under the initiative, and out of these, 61 have already enrolled themselves in rehabilitation centres.

There were a lot of underprivileged individuals who wanted to undergo rehabilitation but did not have resources. Therefore, the Corporate Social Responsibility funding dimension was added to Project Pratighaat, and its first batch was flagged off by CM. Moreover, in the last four months, Tirap Police have dealt a heavy blow to drug trafficking in the district, arresting a total of 23 individuals and seizing 315 gm of Heroin, Tirap Police in a press release said

The inauguration of the CCTV network project and the flagging off of the drug rehabilitation batch are significant steps taken by the Tirap Police to ensure the safety and security of the people of Tirap district and to create a drug-free society.
