Fifth Mobilization Session of ' Project Pratighaat' , a campaign Against Drug Menace in Tirap held

A significant gathering took place in Tutnyu village, Tirap district, as part of the "Project Pratighaat – Nari Shakti Against Drug Menace in Tirap" organized by the District Police and ZPC Tirap.


The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. In his address, SP Tirap Rahul Gupta explained the goals of the project, which include women volunteers counselling young people with drug addiction and working alongside Lazu Police Station staff. He encouraged the public to share information about drug dealers, promising confidentiality. All speakers urged the community to unite against drugs and support the district police.




CO Lazu specifically asked the public not to grow opium in the upcoming winter season and called on village councils to admonish those who support drug dealers. Dignitaries at the event praised the efforts of women volunteers who have engaged in door-to-door counselling in Deomali and Khonsa, lauding their dedication and commitment to the cause.


This gathering marked the fifth mobilization session of Project Pratighaat. The project began on August 23, 2023, with a monumental gathering in Deomali, followed by a session in Khonsa town on August 31, 2023. Two more sessions were held in the Borduria and Soha police station areas by the respective officer-in-charge of police stations.



Since the start of the program, women workers and police have visited homes to counsel those affected by drug addiction. So far, 83 people in the district have received counselling. A remarkable 14 have taken the brave step of joining treatment centres, with more in the queue to join rehabilitation centres as soon as the space is available.



Additionally, Tirap District Police have cracked down on drug peddlers, arresting 16 peddlers and seizing 171 grams of heroin in the last two months.


As the district police and community continue with Project Pratighaat, all are resolved to remain committed to a drug-free, empowered community and build a healthier future for the Tirap district.

The event brought together key figures including SP Tirap, Rahul Gupta IPS, ZPC Tirap, Chathong Lowang, Project Director Tirap District,  Nangram Pingkap, CO Lazu,  D. K. Thongdok, village leaders, GBs, and the Chairperson of Care Me Home Society,  Songtung Bangsia. Local youth, community leaders, members of the Tutsa Women Welfare Association, Nocte Women Association, and residents from various Tutnyu block villages, ttotalling250 attendees.
