This is the largest seizure of contraband items in the East Siang district to date. The operation was a major blow to the inter-district drug trafficking racket.

On Sunday, at around 9:30 AM, the Pasighat police received information from the OC of Aalo Police Station, Inspector Duto Bagra, that some boys from Aalo had gone to Pasighat to receive contraband drugs from a lady peddler.

The OC of Pasighat Police Station, Inspector Tabin Padung, rushed to the spot with his team. He realized that he needed more teams to place nakas (roadblocks) at multiple suspected locations.

Subsequently, the SP of East Siang district formed three teams, each under DySP (Police) Taba Biroy, APPS, Lady Inspector Ojum Riba, OC of Women's Police Station, and Inspector Tabin Padung, to place nakas and to conduct the raids.

WASE President Yamik Dulom Darang was also contacted to reach near Sirki Petrol Pump with her team to act as an independent witness.

At around Noon, a lady named Nung Padung alias Yage Yompang came from Rengging side towards Pasighat and was intercepted by the police team near Sirki Petrol Pump.

One of the lady police officers, L/Ct Yade Dupit Perme, identified her by face and alerted the police team that she had been arrested earlier in NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases in 2022. The vehicle was searched and a cash amount of Rs. 1,05,630/-, which she had received after the sale of contraband drugs, was recovered and seized.

Further, she disclosed that she had delivered the contraband to three boys and they had already left for Aalo. One of them was on a Scooty, one on a motorbike, and the third one was driving a Bolero car.

Both the OCs of Pasighat Police Station and Women's Police Station, along with their teams led by Dy.SP (Police) Taba Biroy, chased them till Aalo. Meanwhile, the OCs of Pangin Police Station, Inspector T. Pasar, and Aalo Police Station, Inspector Duto Bagra, were given specific details about all three vehicles and were requested to intercept them.

Two vehicles were intercepted by the OC of Aalo Police Station and one by the OC of Pangin Police Station. A case was also registered at Aalo Police Station. The three boys (peddlers) along with the main lady peddler were brought to Pasighat Police Station.

After detailed interrogation, the police team, along with WASE mothers and a magistrate, went ahead for a house search of Yage Yompang at Lower Banskota, Pasighat. From there, 10 soap cases of contraband drugs, which were hidden in an abandoned public toilet, were recovered and seized.

Meanwhile, the SP of East Siang District appreciated the coordinated efforts by the police teams of three districts - East Siang, Siang, and West Siang, and also the support extended by WASE Mothers.

'This 10-12 hour long operation has given a big blow to the inter-district supply chain. Further investigation to establish backward linkages is on,' the SP said.
