41 Sportspersons, 12 Coaches Felicitated with Cash Incentives on National Sports Day

41 sportspersons from different sports disciplines from the state who brought laurels for the state in the 2022-23 session and 12 coaches, totalling 53, were felicitated and awarded with cash incentives on the occasion of National Sports Day on Tuesday.



India celebrates 29th August every year as “Rashtriya Khel Diwas” to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Major Dhyanchand. The celebration was held at the Banquet Hall in Itanagar.



The 41 awardees were from the disciplines of badminton, football, karate, taekwondo, weightlifting, and wushu.


The cash incentives were disbursed by the Directorate of Sports, Government of Arunachal Pradesh to sportspersons for bringing laurels for the state and the country at various national and international sporting competitions.



Mama Natung, Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, graced the occasion as the chief guest.


Speaking on the occasion, Natung expressed his gratitude and said that it is a proud moment for the state to see that three wushu players - Mepung Lamgu, Nyeman Wangsu, and Onilu Tega, inmates of SLSA, have been selected to represent India in the upcoming 19th Asian Games to be held at Hangzhou, China.



He congratulated all the aspiring athletes and assured to provide all possible cooperation from the government. While congratulating all the cash incentive awardees, Natung appealed to all stakeholders to work shoulder to shoulder in making Arunachal Pradesh a sporting powerhouse in the years to come.



Day-long sports activities were also organized in various districts in compliance with the SOP issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs to mark the day.
